Itinerary
- Depart 151 on London at 9.000am
- Guided ride begins at Makowhai Station Base at 10.30am
- Return to Base for lunch
- Ride over to the Moeawatea Valley for an afternoon on the trails
- Accommodation and back-country feast around the campfire at Opaku Lodge Saturday night
- Depart Opaku for a day’s ride exploring the rest of Makowhai Station. Packed lunch provided
- Return to Makowhai Station Base mid-afternoon
** Accommodation at 151 on London on Friday night (optional),
** Muster Saturday morning for breakfast at Kristie’s Cafe 7.30 (optional)
** Support vehicle loaded at 151 on London Motel with change of clothes, sleeping bag and beverage of choice to consume around camp fire Saturday night. Depart 9am
THE DETAILS:
What you need to bring:
As a minimum, each rider should start the day with the following:
- Bike fully fuelled. Ensure your bike has sufficient tools and spares like a spare inner tube and spark plug with spanner.
- A named fuel container with enough fuel to refill your bike for the km you will ride on Sunday. This fuel container will be put on a truck or trailer
- Helmet and other protective gear
- Goggles or glasses- Suggest goggles if dusty or wet weather.
- Thin balaclava for under your helmet if it looks cold and wet
- Warm gloves. Recommend bringing two pairs of warm gloves to withstand wind and rain, so you can change them part way through the day.
- Riding clothing- ensure it is warm, wind and waterproof. Layer up!
- Suitable boots
- Small back pack
- Water bladder
- Warm and waterproof jacket
- Sunburn cream
- Bike tools.
Additional riding items that are suggested are:
- Camera- there will be heaps of great photo opportunities: remember your Go Pro battery only lasts about 1 hour. Bring two or three!
- Gear in plastic bags
- Spare pair of riding gloves
- Any medication that is required
For your stay within the camp, you will also need:
- Sleeping bag
- Toilet gear
- Change of clothes
Please note: events on Makowhai Station are drug and alcohol free. We promote “8 hours between bottle and throttle”. BYO beverage for Saturday night but the bar shuts at 12pm. If you are considered to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol before the ride commences you will be removed from the event.
